David Hoines maintains his private practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but also is admitted to conduct proceedings in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York for the Third Judicial Department.
The Appellate Division for the State of New York reviews civil and criminal case appeals from trial courts, including the Supreme Court, Court of Claims, and Family Courts. Specifically, the Third Judicial Department oversees cases for 28 counties and judicial districts 3, 4, and 6, which make up a seventh of New York’s population.
To gain admission into the Appellate Division, the admissions application must be completed following taking the bar examination. The application must be fully completed before filing and include a State Board of Law Examiners notice of certification, admissions questionnaire, two good moral character affidavits, employment affidavits, certificates of good standing and grievance letters from admitted jurisdictions, pro bono affidavit, and form certificate from one’s law school. The application and affidavits must be signed in the presence of a notary, who will also provide their signatures. For the Third Judicial Department, the documents must be mailed to Appellate Division, Third Department, Attorney Admissions, PO Box 7350, Capitol Station, Albany, New York 12224-0350.
